About Me
I was born in Munich, Germany, with German being my first and familial language. Most of my childhood was spent in the mountains outside of Golden, Colorado, under those wonderful blue Colorado skies. Prior to attending college, I studied in France and obtained my baccalaureat from a lycee just outside of Paris. My undergraduate education was in physics with a degree from the University of California, Berkeley. I had intended to pursue an interest in magnetospheric and ionospheric physics, but thankfully remained a bit more earthbound and ended up in time pursuing a degree in medicine from the University of Colorado in Denver. Further training in orthopedics included clinical research with numerous publications in the field of joint arthroplasty or replacement at the University of Utah, an orthopedic residency with the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program, as well as a fellowship in trauma orthopedics in Hannover and Berlin, Germany, through the organization AO North America. By having specialized in orthopedics, I have had the pleasure of being able to benefit from my background in physics, marvel with respect and awe at the incredibility of human health and life, and enjoy my interest in and compassion for people as individuals.
My Career with Kaiser Permanente
I began with Kaiser Permanente here in the Diablo Service Area shortly after completion of my fellowship, in 1998. It has proven to have been an ideal professional decision to be come part of this organization. I value my colleagues, and feel that our system gives me the tools and freedom to provide my patients with excellent, integrated health care. I'm proud of our accomplishments - and that we have been recognized as providing quality health care in California.
Practice Philosophy/Approach
I am a strong believer in helping patients become knowledgeable about their conditions and in partnering with you in making medical decisions. By trying to provide more in depth understanding of an orthopedic condition, my hope is to provide my patients with a sense of control over their health situation and a freedom from the fear of the unknown. A website that many of my patients have found helpful is the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
