I put this home page together to tell you something about myself and some information about neurosurgical diseases that you may be interested in. I was born in Hong Kong, and was sent to school in England at a relatively young age. After being educated in Cambridge and London University, I completed my Neurology and Neurosurgery training at Stanford. I stayed on the faculty at Stanford for twelve years as an Associate Professor and was the Academic Chief in Neurosurgery at one of its affiliated hospitals. I had a laboratory at Stanford to study brain cancer stem cells and the formation of brain tumor vessels, which was complimentary to my clinical interest in treating brain tumors and metastatic disease to the brain and spine. I joined the Neurosurgery Department at Kaiser Permanente, Redwood City in April 2009.
I come to Kaiser Permanente with great expectations and enthusiasm for being able to work with the first Cyberknife, a kind of robotic radiosurgery machine, within the Kaiser Permanente system. This machine delivers a high energy beam to eradicate cancer cells. More importantly, I am excited about working in this health-care system, which is known to be at the forefront in advocating evidence based medicine. For being a member of the Kaiser Permanente Neurosurgeons I will be able to work closely with our regional Radiation oncologists, Neuro-oncologist, and Medical oncologists. We will be able to exchange ideas, and formulate new therapeutic paradigms to optimize the treatment of brain tumors and be a cohesive force to ensure the delivery the most advanced care to our patients.
Having live in various parts of the world for most of my childhood and teenager years, it allows me to appreciate the beauty of different cultures; it also provides me with the prospective in understanding the needs of each and every individual. This forms the basis of my clinical philosophy, which is to address the individual needs of my patients, provide them with comfort, and to respect their dignity.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
