Welcome to my homepage.

This page is intended to give you some information about my background as well as give you information regarding services that are provided in the Psychiatry department. You can also use this page to find information regarding some common mental health concerns and to link to the Kaiser Permanente Member’s website where you can order prescription refills, find additional health information, or book an appointment with your primary care provider.

I joined the Child and Family Team of Kaiser Fremont Department of Psychiatry in July of 2006. My work experience prior to coming to Kaiser has involved working with a full spectrum of mental health concerns in different clinical settings, ranging from inner-city school-based work with young people and their families, to County Mental Health work in a rural setting of Northern California.

My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY, and a Master of Arts in Marital and Family Therapy from University of Notre Dame de Namur, Belmont, CA. I am Bilingual (in Spanish and English) and Bicultural (Mexican-American), and hold a Registration in Art Therapy. I have been licensed to practice psychotherapy in CA since October 2003. My background and experience allow me to understand individual and family problems as part of larger systemic and social problems, in this way I hope to help the young person and family begin to address root causes as well as the symptoms of the problem. I believe that by beginning with the personal work we need to do individually, we can begin to transform our relationships, and it is through this transformation in relationships that healing can occur.

Because families and young people heal in very individualized and unique ways, my work involves collaborating with professional colleagues to provide the best treatment available; this may include: individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, educational classes, and treatment with medication. Patients are often treated by more than one provider in the department.

New and return patients can schedule appointments with me Tuesday through Friday by calling the clinic on weekdays from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm at (510) 248-3060. If you are new to the Psychiatry Department, you will participate in a brief telephone screening with a clinician who will recommend a provider based on your needs.

I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist, MFT# MFC40302

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
