My Biography
I started out at San Francisco Medical Center as an on-call instructor in childbirth education. That position led me to further involvement with the prenatal program. I liked the Breastfeeding and Prenatal Education Center’s openness to providing patient education and information, and the terrific staff. The Center also has its own dedicated space, an unusual occurrence in this field. Kaiser Permanente’s strength is in its availability of resources under one umbrella. Our system emphasizes health maintenance and self-care. Here in the Center, we see a broad spectrum of members.
My philosophy of care is helping all mothers have a wonderful birth experience and assisting them in getting off to a good start as families. I consider myself lucky to work in a field where the focus is on women’s childbearing years. With many members, I have continuity of care from the prenatal stage to postpartum. Some members return for second and third pregnancies.
I stay current with labor and birth practices. I follow breastfeeding trends and subscribe to a journal called Breastfeeding Medicine. I am the Site Coordinator for the Healthy Beginnings program, and I sit on the Breastfeeding Task Force, a multidisciplinary group that includes pediatric lactation experts. I attend a number of professional conferences every year, such as Lamaze International, La Leche League International, and the San Francisco Breastfeeding Coalition.
I love dancing, everything from swing to salsa! I’ve even done Middle Eastern dance. I enjoy traveling and spending time with family. I thrive in several ways: I drink lots of water, and try to walk each day. In fact, I park my car further away from the office so that I can get some walking in. I believe in keeping things in perspective. I have three children, two cats, a dog, and a trilingual (not kidding) African Grey parrot!
