Hi! My name is Vanessa Felix, MD. I am a Kidney Specialist. Kidney Specialists evaluate and treat patients with acute kidney failure, chronic kidney disease, severe hypertension, chronic kidney failure requiring kidney replacement therapy (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation), recurrent kidney stones, inherited kidney disorders, cystic kidney disorders, and electrolyte disorders.

A wide variety of treatments have recently become available to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease or lessen the consequences if you already have advanced disease. My job is to help you take advantage of these advances to allow you to continue to lead a healthy and productive life.

About Me

I was born in Canoga Park, CA and raised in the San Fernando Valley. I received my undergraduate degree at Stanford University, CA. My medical degree and my Internal Medicine residency were completed at University of Illinois, Chicago, IL. My medical interests include chronic and acute renal failure.

I always had an interest in science and biology and always did well in these areas. I got a chance to do volunteer dancing at an elderly home when I was young. At that time, I felt that I really wanted to do more for the community and to help people when I can. One of my mentors from medical school encouraged me to pursue a career in Nephrology. This had always occurred to me in my mind because my father is a renal patient with diabetic nephropathy. While my father went through different stages of his cure, I was with him every step of the way. After knowing more about the disease, it raised my decisions of wanting to pursue a career in Nephrology. Thereafter, I completed my Nephrology fellowship at the University of California, Davis.

I chose to be at Kaiser Permanente because I agree with the philosophy of educating patients, putting power of healthcare within individuals. I also like the way Kaiser Permanente’s integrated service to patient care with providers, health educators, pharmacists, and renal care coordinators all located conveniently in one facility. Another philosophy that I strongly agree with the organization is the prevention of disease.

I like the Central Valley because of its proximity to the Bay Area, Southern California and to the mountains. When I am not working, I like traveling, dancing, including classical ballet, Ballet Folklorico, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, playing basketball and racquetball and spending time with my family. I am fluent in both English and Spanish.

My Philosophy of Care

My goal is to help patients to become better informed about the disease process. Guide them with their decisions and to treat them always with respect.
