Welcome to My Home Page!

I am pleased to offer my home page as a means to introduce myself and also, to provide you with high-quality health information through useful handouts and helpful web links.

About My Profession

My name is Val Statescu and I am a Doctor of Optometry. An optometrist diagnoses and treats vision problems and eye disease, and prescribes eye glasses and contact lenses.

About Me

I was born in Bucharest, Romania, and I came to the United States with my family in 1969. As both my parents were medical doctors, a profession in the health care field was a natural choice for me.

My undergraduate studies were done at University of California at Los Angeles where I obtained a B.A. in Psychology. I received my Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton.

Prior to my employment with Kaiser Permanente, I worked with Eye Care USA and Eye Exam 2000 of California where I was a managing doctor at several of their offices.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2001 because I wanted to be part of what I believe is one of the best health care systems in the nation. Also, at this point in my career, I was ready to focus entirely on patient care without the interference of administrative duties. As an integrated system, Kaiser Permanente is the ideal working environment for me.

I care a lot about my patients so it is important to me to know that your concerns are thoroughly addressed. During your visit with me, I encourage your questions. It gives me a lot of satisfaction knowing that my answers will help you better understand your conditions and treatment options. I take pride in knowing that the eye care our patients receive in our department is timely, comprehensive and of the highest quality.

On a Personal Note...

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. We like to travel and go to the movies and restaurants. My other interests are reading and skiing.

Be sure to visit the Kaiser Permanente Website for additional information regarding appointments, prescriptions, health education classes and other health-related topics. You can also click on my department link above to receive additional health information.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
