She srtongly believes that the power of knowledge, being informed, asking the appropriate questions and actively participating in your personal healthcare experience may reduce the stress of coming to surgery and may lead to a better recovery process.
Valerie was born in Texas and raised in Arizona and Utah. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University, Salt Lake City, Utah. Her graduate work was completed at Samuel Merritt College, Program of Nurse Anesthesia, Masters of Nursing in November 2007. Valerie did her residency at Kaisers of Northern California, UCSF, Mt Zion, Sutter Memorial in Sacremento and Straub Hospitals and clinics of Honolulu.
Like all healthcare specialties Anesthesia is frequently changing and advancing, so with this in mind I am constantly learning something new. This in itself is what she enjoys about her work. She is particulary interested in obstetric anesthesia, partially because it is so great to see the immediate effect an epidural can have on a women in labor.
Her personal interests include time with her family, traveling, reading and outdoor adventures.
Valerie is fluent in English but can form a few sentences in Finnish or Spanish.
