Welcome to my practice

Welcome to My Homepage, a website that my colleagues and I have developed to make it easier for you to interact with me and for me to take care of many of your healthcare needs. I'm eager to work with you to make your experience at Kaiser Permanente a positive one.

About Me
I graduated from medical school in Germany in 1998 and underwent training in Anesthesiology (University of Rochester, NY), Critical Care Medicine (Mount Sinai Hospital, NY) and Internal Medicine (Norwalk Hospital, CT). During these eight years of postgraduate training in America I was fortunate to learn about the key aspects of clinical medicine from multiple angles.

My wife grew up in California. Therefore it was a natural decision to move with the family to the beautiful Bay Area. Working at Kaiser Permanente San Jose allows me to practice both in the operating room and intensive care unit. I am a firm believer in providing care according to the best scientific medical evidence available. In the ICU, following daily checklists as part of a team of dedicated nurses, pharmacists and respiratory therapists directed by intensivists has been shown to improve safety significantly. Anesthesiology has also seen an extraordinary improvement in patient safety over the past decades.

I also believe that everybody has the right to self-determination. Being in the hospital often is a very stressful event for the entire family. With that in mind I work with all patients and their families to put into effect a medical care plan that will provide optimal care for the individual patient.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
