My Philosophy

Eat well, exercise daily, work hard, play often, minimize stress, make family and friends a priority, develop meaningful relationships, use your seat belt, don't smoke or use drugs, and if you have medications, use them as they are prescribed.

My Qualifications

I received my medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle and completed my residencies with Loma Linda University Medical Center (General Surgery) and the University of California, Irvine Medical Center (Emergency Medicine).

I have been with Kaiser in Sacramento and Roseville since 2001. Prior to my arrival, I practiced at Kaiser-Fontana and Kaiser-Riverside. I currently serve as Kaiser’s Emergency Medical Services Liaison for the Roseville area as well as the Call Center Physician Liaison to the Sacramento Appointment and Advice Call Center. I am also Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UC Davis and help train Emergency Medicine residents at our Sacramento facility. My other professional interests include wilderness medicine and international emergency medicine.

I am a member of several professional organizations including: Sierra Sacramento Medical Society, American College of Emergency Physicians, American Academy of Emergency Physicians, and Christian Medical Association.

My Healthcare Practice

As an Emergency Medicine specialist I endeavor to provide you with compassionate, efficient, and high quality care for your urgent and emergent medical problems.

I chose to become an Emergency Medicine specialist for a variety of reasons. I enjoy the variety and fast pace of the Emergency Department as well as the ability to treat patients of all ages with potentially life threatening medical problems covering the breadth of medicine.

Receiving Your Healthcare From Kaiser Permanente

The advantage of getting your care in a Kaiser Emergency Department is the assurance of high quality care by empathetic physicians, nurses, and staff. At Kaiser I have the freedom to practice medicine the way I want to. In addition, our remarkable computer system allows me access to your medical history, which helps me provide you safe and efficient care. Also, I really value the availability of a large group of specialists who are just a phone call away, if necessary.

My Outside Interests

When I’m not working I enjoy fly-fishing, golf, skiing, mountaineering, hiking, and traveling. My adventures have taken me to 52 countries over the past 20 years. I especially enjoy providing heathcare in austere and Third-World environments. My latest trip included surgery, emergency and ward care at Atoifi Hospital, Malaita, Solomon Islands. Ask me about my published research on substituting coconut water for IV fluid! See Outside Magazine, September 2004, for a preview.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
