My Biography

I was born in Mountain View, California, practically walking distance from the Santa Clara Kaiser Medical Center. I subsequently lived in Israel for several years, following which my family moved back to California where I grew up in Thousand Oaks, California. I escaped Southern California as quickly as I could and came to Stanford University for my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemistry. Having gotten the laboratory bug out of my system, I proceeded happily to medical school at the University of California, Davis, where I immersed myself in clinical work and spent some time as director of one of the student-run clinics in Sacramento. From Sacramento, it was on to New York City where I completed my Pediatric Residency training at Mount Sinai Hospital. While at Mount Sinai I received the award for best teacher amongst my residency class. A much greater reward came in my last year of residency in the form of my first child. After residency thousand of miles from home, my partner, my son and I returned to California (thank goodness) and within months I began work at Kaiser Santa Clara.

My Professional Practice

I am a Hospital Based Pediatric Specialist here at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara. This means that my practice is focused solely on caring for children who are in the hospital at any time from birth until their eighteenth birthday. When a child becomes ill and needs to be hospitalized, it is a time of great stress for that child and their family. My role is to make sure that every child receives the best possible care for their medical condition. I am also available as a resource for families to explain how a child came to be ill and to interpret all the complexities of lab tests and x-rays, medicines and vital signs. Most of my patients need to be in the hospital for a short while: common problems include infections, stomach flus or asthma attacks. Others have more chronic conditions for which they are receiving ongoing treatment. Here at Kaiser Santa Clara Pediatrics we work as a team. You will see hospital-based doctors, specialists, nurses, pharmacists, child-life specialists and social workers who are in the hospital every day, some of us all night, to make sure that every child receives exceptional, expert care.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
