Welcome to my home page. I have provided a personal biography and some useful links that may be useful to you.

About Me

I am a general internist whose practice is in Hospital Medicine (HM). I began my career with Kaiser Permanente in 1988 working primarily in the medical clinic while sharing hospital duties with my fellow internists. In September 1997, Redwood City Kaiser Permanente started its HM program with the intent to provide more dedicated hospital care to our members who need to be hospitalized. I was one of the first internists to join the HM team. I enjoy this exciting field of practice caring for seriously afflicted members. To be able to help them through a tough time in the hospital is especially rewarding and satisfying.

After finishing high school in Hong Kong, I came to the United States to further my education. My undergraduate was in pharmacy at the University of Utah from which I received both my BS and MD degrees. I choose to practice medicine at Kaiser Permanente because of its commitment to quality and affordable care along with excellent service.

I am married and have a set of triplet children. I enjoy music, reading, and traveling. I am fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin. If you or anybody you know who is in the hospital need translation assistance in these languages, I’ll be happy to help.

Links

I have included some links to the left of my page that you may find useful during and after your hospitalization. The Going Home link provides guidance to follow up plan after discharge. If you do not have a personal physician, we can help arrange a new primary care provider for you at the time of discharge.

Some members have asked if I have a clinic. Regretfully, I no longer work in the outpatient department. However, you can be assured that your physician will be kept fully informed of your hospitalization. During your stay in the hospital, you may encounter one or more procedures. The Consent Form link contains useful information on a number of common hospital procedures which can help answer some questions you may have before you sign the consent to have it done.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
