About Pathology
Pathologists provide information to other physicians essential to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. In the course of our work, we analyze tissue, blood, and other body fluids in order to answer many questions, for example: Is this patient’s blood test normal? Is this patient’s skin lesion a benign mole or melanoma? Is the blood for transfusion free of disease and compatible with the patient’s blood? How did this family’s loved one die? The department of pathology includes many highly skilled individuals, including clinical laboratory scientists, cytotechnologists, phlebotomists, technical assistants, and pathologists—to name just a few.
I am one of five pathologists serving the Richmond Medical Center and Berkeley Regional Laboratory. Although I provide consultation in most areas of anatomic and clinical pathology, topics of special interest to me include dermatopathology and cytopathology, as well as flow cytometry and hemostasis/coagulation.
About Kaiser Permanente
Through its innovative system of prepaid comprehensive medical care, Kaiser Permanente promotes a spirit of cooperation in which primary care physicians, specialists, and support staff all work together—not in competition—to provide optimal healthcare for each patient. For over fifty years, physicians in our organization have enjoyed the independence and support needed to practice high-quality, cost-effective medicine. I myself have been a happy, healthy, Kaiser health-plan member for over 40 years! I am honored to be a physician member of such a distinguished healthcare team, just one among thousands—and thousands—of truly talented and dedicated individuals working together to provide you with the highest-quality medical care possible. Please read the wonderful things that numerous outside reviewers have to say about our organization: http://www.permanente.net/awards/
About Me
I was born at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco, as was my daughter 30 years later! I was raised in the Bay Area and attended both college and medical school in California. I currently live with my family in Oakland and enjoy playing the piano and studying Renaissance Literature.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
