Medicine from a scientist’s perspective

As a specialist in pulmonary and critical care medicine, I spend the majority of time in the Intensive Care Units of our Hayward and Fremont Medical Centers. I also see patients with lung disease in the clinics of both Medical Centers.

Prior to medical school in my home State of New Jersey, I received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Villanova University. I then completed my training with a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. While there, I spent six years in the laboratory investigating how air and blood flow in the lungs, new treatments for carbon monoxide poisoning and new methods to detect blood clots in the lungs.

I believe that knowledge is power. Please take advantage of all of the patient oriented health information that Kaiser has accumulated from physicians and health educators. We have very many resources available. I have linked some of my favorites to this page.

Your primary care provider

As a specialist in lung medicine, I work with you and your primary care provider to maximize your health and quality of life. By having a primary care provider as a resource for health information and for regularly scheduled appointments you help us take better care of you. If you or any member of your family do not yet have a primary care provider, visit the Kaiser Permanente Choose your Physician website. We'll help you make the right choice.

Since I am often in the ICU and not in clinic, health related questions are best directed to your primary care provider. If needed, the best way for you to get in touch with me is through Kaiser’s secure e-mail message system. If you have not yet signed up, please click the link on this page - it's easy to get started!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
