I am pleased to offer my home page as a means to introduce myself and to provide you with high-quality health information through useful handouts and helpful web links.

My Qualifications

I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and lived most of my early years in Texas. I completed my undergraduate work in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas, Austin, where I also earned a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering. I received my M.D. from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and completed a general medicine internship at Baylor University. I moved to the Sacramento area in 1980 for my Ophthalmology residency at the University of California, Davis. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1983. My professional interests include cataract surgery and medical group administration.

My Healthcare Practice

I am a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a particular interest in cataract surgery. I enjoy working with a great team of comprehensive ophthalmologists and ophthalmic subspecialists at our Rancho Cordova, Folsom, Sacramento, Roseville and Lincoln facilities. My professional time is now split between clinical and administrative responsibilities. I am an Assistant Physician-in-Chief for Sacramento/Roseville, the Director for Surgical Services for the Sacramento and Roseville hospitals, and the Medical Director for the Rancho Cordova facility. I am also an executive member of the Regional Perioperative Management Group which directs surgical services policy for northern California Kaiser Permanente.

I chose Ophthalmology because I enjoy physics and visual science. I feel strongly about the impact of good vision on an individual’s quality of life and have dedicated my life to helping my patients achieve and preserve good vision.

Receiving Your Healthcare From Kaiser Permanente.

Kaiser Permanente represents to me the best approach to health care. The integrated team approach by skilled physicians and nurses with the latest technology and medical information provides clinically superior outcomes for our patients.

My Outside Interests

My wife and I have an adult daughter and teenage son who are both in college. We enjoy many outdoor sports, in particular: downhill skiing, windsurfing, mountain biking, and road cycling. We’re avid Sacramento Kings' fans and enjoy local theater productions. I also volunteer annually for our Mission Cataract Program which offers free cataract surgery to medically indigent adults.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
