Welcome to my home page!

Pulmonary medicine deals with breathing problems. These problems range from asthma to snoring. It is challenging finding the cause, and gratifying helping people breathe better.

This web page has information on many conditions. I hope it will give patients information they are seeking. I hope the information will generate questions to help patients further understand conditions and procedures. Please take your time looking and reading through the sites.

About Me
After graduating from Indiana University Medical School in 1974, I moved to the Bay Area and have remained. I have worked in San Francisco and the north bay before coming to Kaiser Permanente.

I have been with The Permanente Medical Group since 2000. All of my time has been spent at Richmond. I had been in private practice for 21 years before coming to TPMG. Other organizations I was affiliated with were trying to copy the Kaiser health care delivery system, but were not able to approach the expertise and systems developed at Kaiser Permanente. I enjoy the patient being the focus of the organization. The systems and technology available are the best in the world. Each patient deserves full attention and the best care available. Each visit with a person is a chance to learn from them and to help them understand their condition.

I am a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American Thoracic Society. I enjoy spending time with my children who have been scattered across the globe. My interests include sports participation and viewing, being outdoors, birdwatching, riding fast motorcycles and music, especially jazz and blues.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
