Welcome to my home page and to the Kaiser Permanente Autism Spectrum Disorder Center at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center which has other autism related links. I hope you will find useful information here about me, and my practice philosophy, as well as some useful links to information on general health topics.
About Me...
I am currently one of the senior psychologists with Kaiser Permanente San Jose ASD Center and also function as the training director for post-doctoral psychologists and other members of the team. My main specialty is in the clinical assessment of ASDs and consulting with families and other professionals. My other specialties are in psychological assessment, working with families who have a child with a disability, and psychotherapy with adolescents.
I obtained my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2003. My research interest in graduate school dealt with the influence of fathers on the psychological functioning of their children. I did my undergraduate work, also majoring in psychology, at the University of California in San Diego. My internship was in the Department of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine in San Diego where I worked with adults, families, and children. My post-doctoral fellowship was with the Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center Department of Child Psychiatry. After my fellowship, I then joined the Kaiser Permanente San Jose ASD Clinic shortly after it opened. Among my other clinical experiences include being a counselor at a school for children with learning disorders, ADHD, and/or Asperger’s.
My personal interests are in keeping active, reading (mostly non-fiction), seeing movies, playing my music too loud, and enjoying other aspects of culture. I also maintain interests in science fiction and video games (helpful interests to have when working with adolescent boys).
My Philosophy of Care...
I believe in early intervention and family and community education. Progress in our field has been the result of a collaborative effort of families, providers and community. I am committed to the development of children’s mental health through evidence-based practices and I am privileged to work with a team at Kaiser Permanente that will integrate research in the clinical practice.
