My Biography

I have been with the medical group as a staff physician since 1983. I began my education on the East Coast with an undergraduate degree in Biology from Princeton University and my medical degree from The State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in 1978. Upon receiving sage advice from my spouse (who grew up on the West Coast), and after experiencing one too many hurricanes and blizzards, I migrated West to complete my medical training. I finished my residency in internal medicine right here at Kaiser Santa Clara. I went on to complete my fellowship training in rheumatology at Stanford University. Since then, I have been directly involved in patient care, primarily as a consultant in the rheumatology division. I am board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

In addition to my clinical duties, I have spent time in various administrative functions throughout the years including terms as the Chief of Quality, departmental Peer Review Chairman, and as the Associate Chief and Service Chairman of the Department of Medicine.

I have been married for more than 30 years and enjoy traveling with my wife. Together we enjoy the company of our canine companions.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
