My Home Page

The purpose of my home page is to provide you with a glimpse into my life and what I do and I hope you find the health information links helpful.

My Credentials

Medical school Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Loma Linda, CA
Internship White Memorial Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA
Residency Florida Hospital, Orlando, FL
Board certification Emergency Medicine, American Board of Emergency Medicine

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1999.

My Practice

In my previous practice, when I released a patient from the Emergency Department, I would always recommend that they follow-up with their primary care physician. However, I knew that many, if not most, of them NEVER WOULD or NEVER COULD do this because they had no primary care physician. It is a great relief to work in Kaiser where the primary care coverage is so exemplary.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

It is great to work in an environment where I know my patients can get the care they need. At Kaiser Permanente, we have the primary care AND specialty care to cover all the needs of my patients. Kaiser has information systems far more advanced than any hospital I have worked at in the past. These computerized information systems give me immediate access to the history, allergies, and lab results for my patients, and give me methods of getting prompt referrals and tests done.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Physicians.

My Personal History

My family roots are in the farmlands of Canada, and we still maintain a family home in British Columbia, but most of my education and growing up took place here in California. My wife is a Californian, and a Doctor of Music with an active schedule of teaching and performing. Our children are musical as well, and attend church schools here in the Sacramento area. When not working in the Emergency Department, I love making music with my family (I play cello), traveling with my family, and also like to relax by doing a bit of computer programming! A few times each year I serve as medical director and lecturer for community health education seminars including stop smoking seminars, cardiac health improvement seminars, and vegetarian cooking classes. These seminars give me the opportunity to share more with my patients about healthful living that I sometimes can in the busy Emergency Department setting.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
