If you are visiting my website, chances you or someone you care deeply about is currently hospitalized.   I am an internal medicine physician specializing in caring for hospitalized patients.

I was born in Taiwan and moved to a suburb of Dallas, Texas as a teenager.  After high school, I went to Wellesley, Massachusetts for college.  I joke that I experienced cultural shock twice, the second time as a Texan in the liberal city of Boston.  After life in the picturesque, all women’s campus, I moved again to Philadelphia center city.  There I attended medical school and learned the science as well as the art of medicine.  Among the many things I learned was the importance of listening to the patient.

I went back to Boston for my residency training, set in the culturally and economically diverse population of Cambridge.  After that, I took a job as a hospitalist down the street.  The hospital staff culture there is known for going the extra mile to ensure patient comfort.  I participated in patient care improvement projects, such as related to medication administration, provider communication, transferring documentation, and infection prevention.  I also enjoyed the comradeship among the team of physicians and nurse practitioners.  On my days off, I enjoy being active in my church community, cooking, playing piano and hiking.

The opportunity to work for Kaiser Permanente came after my husband took a job in the North Bay.  After repeatedly hearing about the excellent care at Kaiser Permanente, I am seeing it for myself after joining the Hospital Based Medicine group.  Kaiser Permanente boasts a state-of-the-art medical record system, world-class reputation and a competent and compassionate staff - all at a personable setting.   I feel honored to be a part of the team.

During my work hours in the hospital, I communicate several times a day with specialty consultants, staff nurses, case managers and social workers to ensure the safest and most efficient treatment for our patients.  My goals for your hospital stay include understanding your symptoms as well as your fears, explaining the current treatments as well as future prevention, and learning about your discomforts as well as how they affect your life.

If you have a question about your care, ask your nurse to call me the same day.  We know there are limits to modern medicine.  However, my role as a physician is to provide the best care within my capacity.  I know that Kaiser Permanente gives me the best chance of doing that.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
