About Me
I am delighted to work for Kaiser Permanente in the department of medicine. I came here as an intern in 1981 after finishing medical school at Stanford and have been working here ever since, except for a 3-year stint at the Over Sixty Clinic in Berkeley where my love of geriatrics blossomed. I am privileged to work as part of a team of physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses caring for Kaiser patients who are staying in nursing homes either temporarily or as their home. I enjoy knowing many of my patients for years and getting to know their families. Helping to optimize health, comfort and quality of life for my patients brings me great satisfaction. I learn from my patients and my colleagues and nursing home staff every day. Working with patients with cognitive impairment and psychiatric difficulties is very rewarding to me. I also enjoy sorting out and solving complex internal medicine problems. My panel of patients is made up entirely of Kaiser patients at skilled nursing facilities. I do not have a panel of clinic patients.
In addition to being board-certified in internal medicine, I am also a certified geriatrician. Taking care of patients and families at the end of life is a great privilege. I enjoy working with the wonderful hospice staff, and very much enjoyed serving as Kaiser Oakland associate hospice medical director a few years ago. Our team of geriatricians participate in a weekly geriatrics consultation clinic. A team of geriatricians, medical residents, physical therapists, social workers, dieticians and pharmacists does a complete geriatric assessment.
Kaiser Oakland is a wonderful place to work. As a physician, I have always been encouraged to do whatever is best for my patient, irrespective of cost. Kaiser provides state-of-the-art medical care with the best technology and an incredible staff. I am proud to be part of a medical group that is able to put patient health and well-being as the top priority at all times. My family enjoys the excellent medical care we receive at Kaiser. I like the emphasis placed on patient education and health maintenance as well as optimal management of chronic medical conditions.
