Welcome to my home page and to the Department of Psychiatry at Redwood City. My office hours are listed above. On the left are useful links to mental health issues. I hope you find this page helpful in learning about my practice and me at Redwood City.

Psychiatry focuses on the treatment of mental conditions that affects our moods, thoughts and behaviors. I chose to work in this field because I have a special interest in understanding people and how they’re thinking, past and present experiences affect their moods and behaviors. I enjoy the challenge of understanding, as well as helping people to understand and find ways to resolve their mental health struggles.

My practice philosophy includes helping patients to understand their mental health struggles and to work together to resolve them. I like the cognitive behavioral approach, which focuses on how our thinking affects our feelings and behaviors. It is also important to me to bring education to the Asian population about mental illness, since there are still a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings about the subject among this population. I always appreciate the opportunity to offer culturally sensitive treatment to our diverse population.

Since joining Kaiser Permanente in 1989, I have worked with adolescents, families and adults for over ten years of my practice here at Kaiser Permanente. Presently I’m on the adult team and work with adult patients only. Besides treating adult patients individually, I also facilitate two adult groups for the department. I have a particular interest in helping people with depression and relational issues.

On a more personal level, I was born in China and raised in Hone Kong. My family immigrated to the U.S. when I was twelve years old. I’m bilingual and bicultural. I speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and Toishinese. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and my Master degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Jane Adams School of Social Work, Chicago Circle Campus. I moved to California soon after graduate school in 1985 for my first clinical job at St. Mary’s Hospital, McAuley Neuropsychiatric Institute in San Francisco.

I am a mother of two boys. I enjoy spending time with my family. My boys keep me busy and physically fit. I love outdoor activities, hiking, traveling and interior design.

Please feel free to call me at (650) 299-4762 if you have any further questions.
