My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a staff physical therapist at Rancho Cordova. I do all aspects of physical therapy and I also specialize in the treatment of lymphedema. My lymphedema treatments include complete decongestive therapy which consists of manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging / compression garments, exercises, and patient education in precautions and self-care. I chose this specialty because of my personal interest in it.

My Practice Philosophy

My practice philosophy revolves around teaching patients "how to be their own best therapist" which includes, self management of the problem, use of modalities, joint mobilizations, and exercises in order to achieve the goals of my patients.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been employed at Kaiser since 1980. I began as a physical therapy assistant, and then became a physical therapist in 1989. Over that time I have come to appreciate the independence and freedom provided to me in the scope of my practice.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I like treating patients in the physical therapy setting at Kaiser Permanente because of the educational opportunities provided during in-services and outside courses to further my education. I also work with a great physical therapy staff as well as physicians that provide support in order to treat each individual as a team approach.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I am a member of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapist(OMPT)and the National Lymphedema Network (NLN). I have been licensed by the Physical Therapy Board of California since 1989.

On a Personal Note…

I am one of a family of eight kids. I was raised in Southern California, where I began my career at Kaiser. I have worked at four different Kaiser locations and transferred to the Northern California region in 1989. I am happily married and we live in the beautiful Sierra Nevada area.

My Credentials

Please provide a history of your medical education and training: I received an Associate of Science degree in Physical Therapy Assistant Program in 1980. I am a graduate of California State University, Northridge with a Bachelors of Science degree in Health Science with an emphasis in Physical Therapy and Environmental / Occupational Health. I completed a ten month program in Orthopedic Manual Therapy Overview in 1991 and a two week program in Manual Lymph Drainage / Complete Decongestive Therapy Certification Course in 2001. I attend several continuing education courses on a yearly basis to learn new skills and techniques to provide better service to my patients.
