About Me

I’m Sue Decker, and I’m pleased to be on both the Adult Team and the Children and Family Team here in the Psychiatry Department at Kaiser Permanente. I’ve been in the mental health field in both County Mental Health Services and in private practice (15 years in Vacaville) for more than 27 years. I enjoy working here because of the team support and resources. From the reception staff to the psychiatrists, we are all working to make your experience with us one that is healing and comfortable.

My practice philosophy is simple: I’m here to help. I borrow from the work of several mental health masters, and personalize the material so that it is meaningful for the patient. I have a strong formal education, a commitment to lifelong learning, and, as a mother and grandmother, many years of life experience. Most of all, I believe that each of us has a unique and valuable perspective on our own struggles and challenges, but sometimes, it’s good to have help.

I like working here at Kaiser Permanente because of the team approach. Within each team, we offer a myriad of resources for our members. From individual therapy to medication evaluation; from specialized group therapies to classes and telephone appointments, we offer more resources than almost any individual practice would be able to provide. This helps us as clinicians to use many resources in our treatments, making this a rich environment of healing and learning for you.

Often, it can be intimidating to make that first phone call for the appointment or to walk into that large waiting room, but remember, we are here to help.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
