My Practice Philosophy/Approach:
Providing the highest level of care to allow my patients to achieve their best level of functioning following an injury.
It is a pleasure being able to treat you for your work related injury. I, along with the dedicated specialized staff in the Occupational Health Department, look forward to providing you with the quality care and service you expect to assist in the recover from your injury.
In addition to my services, our clinic also provides one-on-one physical therapy, case management services, to assist you with your workers' compensation claim, as well as direct access to orthopedic specialists. My specialty is called Physiatry, which includes the medical management and rehabilitation of people who have experienced neck, back and joint injuries, as well as helping people with nerve and muscle diseases. Some people call our specialty Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the goal of our treatment program is to help the patient regain their highest level of functioning following an injury or illness. We work very closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation counselors and other medical specialists, including orthopedists and neurologists, to develop an individualized treatment program for our patients.
I received my undergraduate degree in Communicative Disorders (Speech Pathology, Audiology and Language Development) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I also obtained my medical degree from the University of Wisconsin and completed my internship and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from Northwestern University Medical School/The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, in Chicago, Illinois. Following the completion of my residency, I continued at Northwestern University Medical School as a faculty member and helped develop two outpatient sports medicine and musculoskeletal clinics. In 1991, I relocated to California and joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1994, working in the Oakland Occupational Health Department, where I continue to provide medical treatment as well as performing administrative duties. I am presently a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the California Medical Association. In addition to my clinical and administrative responsibilities, I enjoy giving presentations about the treatment of upper extremity problems, including repetitive strain injuries and back care management.
In my free time, I enjoy playing squash, skiing, traveling, studying Spanish and learning about modern and contemporary art.
