My Biography

I have practiced psychiatry for 25 years. My training in psychiatry was classically biological, psychological, and sociological in nature. Historically, I have worked in academic psychiatry and in private practice doing psychotherapy and medication evaluations and management. Currently I perform evaluations for medication, medication management, and referral to our department's services including individual and group psychotherapies, skills training for behavioral problems, and mental illness education and management. I was an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas for 13 years. I am a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

I believe medication can be helpful when used in conjunction with appropriate education and psychotherapies. It would be nice if there were a "magic pill" that would do everything, but each individual is encouraged to do the necessary work in order to improve and thrive.

Being able to travel to other countries and to experience different cultures has allowed me to appreciate how complex and different people can be. People in the United States don't always comprehend that we are just one small part of a large world. My favorite place in the world is Italy! I enjoy the country's friendly/expressive people, great food, amazing history, art, and architecture. After 2000+ years of practice, the Italians seem to have gotten it right.
