My Biography

Thank you for visiting my Web site. As senior physician and sub-chief of our group’s obstetric anesthesia division, it is my hope that your experience at our hospital is outstanding in every aspect, particularly for those undergoing childbirth and surgery. We know it is one of the most stressful times in a person’s life, and trusting your medical team to provide state-of-the art, compassionate, and expert care should be the highest priority.

Kaiser Permanente’s greatest assets are the hearts of the people who work here. I am proud to be part of a patient focused team. We take pride in our surgical quality outcomes and ability to contain costs by our unique delivery model. This model of delivery aligns incentives for our patients and our doctors around prevention. Our ability to communicate among health care providers, about our patients under one electronic record keeping system, insures efficient, well orchestrated, integrated care. We are leaders in patient safety initiatives and protocols to improve communication, and trap medical errors. I‘m proud to be part of such a team and of our specialty, among all the medical professions, for actively leading the way in patient safety. We are always learning and growing, and we relentlessly inspire and support one other.

This medical group gives me a balance that can be illusive in the medical profession. Our medical group thinks happy doctors give the best care and our organization also values positioning itself to attract the very best physicians. As a solid team, we can weather the ever changing healthcare climate and despite our size, we are able to maintain a state- of –the- art practice and evolve as a group to maintain excellent quality measures.

After finishing my residency, I completed a fellowship in obstetrics because of my interest in women’s health. As a specialist in obstetric anesthesia, I enjoy working with my hands and providing regional anesthesia. While I love the diversity of my work, which involves caring for younger and older patients undergoing all types of surgeries, I‘m passionate about woman’s health and feel that a healthy mom is the foundation for healthy children and societies. I’m constantly amazed by the miracle of life, and feel so fortunate to be aware of that miracle daily in my work. Outside of my clinical work, I work with other doctors and nurses to improve the safety of our perinatal patients through medical simulation and critical event team training. I also maintain academic involvement by coordinating teaching and residency objectives for the UCSF obstetric anesthesia rotation here at Kaiser Permanente, San Francisco.

I am able to use my skills outside of San Francisco, on medical missions around the world, and expand my view of the world through my expertise. Traveling and participating in medical missions in developing areas of the world with my coworkers, is a hobby inspired by my Kaiser Permanente friends. I receive a deep sense of satisfaction from the care I provide and I love the science, art and human connection, of the work I do.

I make time to enjoy the arts, culture, music, tennis, meditation and a balanced, healthy lifestyle. I love having an active lifestyle and taking advantage of the breathtaking beauty of nature. I love laughing with my friends and family and above all, being at peace. I am blessed to be surrounded by people who inspire me and who make the word a better place.

We encourage any and all feedback about your experiences, and as a department, we are always available for your questions and concerns.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
