Thank you for visiting my home page! My back ground and interests in medicine are varied and versatile.
Taking care of hospitalized patients can be especially challenging and rewarding at the same time. Starting in the Emergency Department my assesment patients plays an important role in my management of acutely ill patients. I am a firm believer that hospitalized patients must be medically maximized as soon as possible so that the healing that must take place occurs as quickly as possible. I try to be very aggressive with giving my patients the best care possible.
I believe that as an osteopathic physician I have a unique perspective on health and healing. According to my training as an osteopath, 'the body has inherent self healing mechanisms' and it is the job of the physican to help place the patient in a position in which the body's inherent mechanisms are maximally activated. I try to employ this philosophy in my approach to patients.
In addition to standard medical approaches I believe that at times patients need the personal touch of their physician to help them heal. As such, I employ very gentle techniques of manual medicine to help my hospitalized patients. I use these techniques in select patients as an adjunct to traditional allopathic and evidence based medicine. I find that such techniques reduce the need for pain medications that can have serious side effects.
Palliative and end of life care are especially challenging for me as a hospitalist. I enjoy taking time with patients families and helping them through very difficult times. I am a good listener and I feel like I can appreciate and empatize with patients and families well.
Let me give you some personal information. I was born in India, but raised in Southern California. I attended Western University of Health Scienes in Pomona California. During residency training at the University of Southern California (USC) I had the opportunity to work with the underserved and it is there that I learned spanish. I can conduct my entire history and physical in spanish and enjoy taking care of patients who are spanish speaking. In addition I can also speak fluent Gujarati and Hindi.
I am married and enjoy spending time working on issues concerning the poor in India. My wife and I both share an interest in doing grassroots development work in India. Helping empower the poor in India is a desire instilled into me after spending time in India working with those who are less fortunate. I hope to do more in the future.
