Welcome to my home page. My name is Sheryl Hancock, MD; and I am a radiologist with Kaiser Permanente, South Sacramento.

I was born in Chicago, Illinois, but I grew up in the rocky mountains of Alberta, Canada, riding horses and enjoying the great outdoors. I have also lived in Maine, Colorado, Indiana, and New York. I moved to Sacramento in 2004, and I have become quite fond of the expansive blue skies and warm weather of California.

My father, who was born in Missouri, is an MD-PhD who specializes in cancer research. My mother, who was born in Norway, is a counselor for women with alcohol and drug addictions. My parents instilled in me a love of nature, art, science, and medicine. Radiology gives me an opportunity to combine many of my interests: the visual intrigue of the images of the human body and the science and art of medicine.

I obtained my undergraduate degree in Biology at Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis. I then graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed their Radiology residency training program. I received Board Certification in Radiology in 2003 and went on to finish a subspecialty fellowship in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in Rochester, New York.

Radiology is a fascinating field. It utilizes amazing technology to delve into the inner workings of the body and produce images of anatomy and pathology that are hidden from the naked eye. I joined the Kaiser Permanente team to participate in a unique environment that promotes a congenial, collaborative, and compassionate approach to medicine. I look forward to working with my colleagues each day. I enjoy utilzing my radiologic skills to help other physicians and their patients with their health care needs.

When I am not working, I share a house with a Great Dane puppy (Xena the 120 lbs. lap dog) and a blue and gold macaw (talkative and loud)!! I enjoy painting with oils and acrylics, drawing, woodworking, hiking, and reading (scientific stuff and fantasy).

I hope your visit to our Department is a pleasant and productive one. Thank you for visiting my home page, and best wishes and good luck on your journey to optimal health.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
