Greetings! and Welcome to my home page

I'm Sheila and I graduated with a B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy from San Jose State University in 1976. I have been certified in Hand Therapy since 1991. My professional affiliations/membership are with AAHS (American Association of Hand Surgery), AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association), ASHT (American Society of Hand Therapists), OTAC (Occupational Therapy Association of California) and NCHTSIG (Northern California Hand Therapy Special Interest Group).

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente since October 1992 in the Out Patient Department of Rehabilitation Services specializing in Hand Therapy. Orthotic devices may be fabricated (customized splinting) for post surgical hand patients. This aspect of therapy I find challenging, stimulating and enlists my creativity. In fact, I have submitted two articles on my splints and both have been published (OT Weekly and the Journal of Hand Therapy).

On the lighter side, I enjoy gardening, reading, observing wildlife, playing with my dogs, watching baseball (Yeah, GIANTS!) among other interests.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
