Welcome to My Internet Home Page

Welcome to my home page! I hope that this page will help you to know more about me as a provider as well as more about me on a personal level.

What is a Genetic Counselor?

Genetic counselors are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. Genetic counselors identify families at risk for birth defects or genetic disease, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the family. Genetic counselors also serve as patient advocates and refer individuals to community or state support services.

About Me

I am an East-coast girl, born and raised in Allentown, PA. In 1998, I graduated from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, where I received my Bachelor of Science in psychology and biological / evolutionary science with a minor in French. Although I am still fascinated by the field of neuroscience, I felt drawn toward a career that would allow me to have more clinical interaction with my patients. In my search, I met a genetic counselor at a local hospital and, VOILA! It did not take long before I realized that genetic counseling was the right career choice for me. In 2006, I moved to Salt Lake City, UT, where I earned my Master of Science in genetic counseling from the University of Utah Medical School.

I am a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. I practice in all areas of clinical genetics (prenatal, pediatric, adult and cancer) with a special interest in infertility and assisted reproductive technologies. I have worked extensively in many areas of patient advocacy, including domestic violence, bereavement counseling, palliative care and genetic disease support groups.

Within the field of Genetics, Kaiser Permanente has a national reputation as a great place to be both a provider and patient. After graduating, I knew that I wanted to be part of a company that takes pride in providing high quality healthcare and services to our patients. I am excited for the opportunity to help move Genetics services into the Central Valley. The addition of the Modesto Medical Center will make these specialty services much more accessible to our patients in Stockton, Modesto and the surrounding areas.

More About Me

Outside of work, I love to spend time with my family, which of course includes our two dogs, Murphy and Jackson. I am also a huge fan of Penn State football! Among other things, I love to travel, cook, camp and snowboard.

My Philosophy of Care

My main goal is to help my patients understand complex medical information and to provide support in their decision-making process. I aim to make my patients feel as comfortable as possible while discussing these very personal matters. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I look forward to providing you the kind of patient care that Kaiser Permanente is known for and I hope to meet you soon!
