My Biography:

I grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. I received my medical degree from National Taiwan University (1978) where I graduated in the top fifth percentile of my class. I moved to the United States to attend the University of Illinois where I earned a Master of Public Health degree. I then completed my residency in internal medicine in Rochester, New York and subsequently a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Brown University Hospitals. While at Brown University, I received the Clinical Fellowship Award from the American Cancer Society for my contributions and achievements. I am board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.

I am a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology, and have authored eight scientific papers in hematology/oncology.

Prior to joining The Permanente Medical Group in 1988, I was an Assistant Professor of Oncology at University of Miami's Comprehensive Cancer Center. In this role, I received the Sylvester Clinical Investigator Award.

My outside-of-hospital favorites include reading award-winning fictions, sports (i.e. sitting in the living room watching football and tennis games).

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
