I am a board certified Genetic Counselor. Genetic counselors are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. Genetic counselors identify families at risk for birth defects or genetic disease, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, and analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the family. Genetic counselors also provide supportive counseling to families, serve as patient advocates and refer individuals and families to community or state support services.
My Biography
I was born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan but moved to California as a teenager. I am married, have one daughter and have lived on and off in the Bay area since 1986. Besides my interests in science, the environment and genetics, I enjoy hiking, reading, cooking, theater and dance. I lived and worked as a teacher in Venezuela for two years which helped me to improve my Spanish language skills and increased my desire to find out more about other cultures.
After spending six years teaching in public and private schools, I chose to return to my earlier fascination with genetics while using the educational and counseling skills that I acquired during my tenure as a classroom teacher.
As you may have noticed, genetics has been in the news a lot recently, and I am enjoying the challenges of working in a field that is continuously growing and changing.
I want to be certain that all of your questions and concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your visit, you can call me or leave me a message at (408) 972-3312. Please be sure to include your medical record number so that I may access your records quickly.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
