I was born in Washington and raised in Southern California. I attended the University of California Davis and then University of Califorinia San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center where I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1974. I worked as a critical care nurse, mostly in cardiac care, before returning to UCSF to complete a Masters degree and a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner certificate in 1988.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group in the Department of Continuing Care, Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) program, in 1999. Before coming to Kaiser Permanente, I worked as a Nurse Practitioner in private practice for a cardiology group and later in an internal medicine and infectious disease practice. I have taught nurses and nursing students since 1980 and I am currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF School on Nursing.

I am married with 2 children, fraternal twins; I enjoy running, swimming, biking and anything else outdoors with my family.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
