Welcome to my home page

I hope to provide you with some advice that you will find interesting and worthwhile, as I know how valuable your time is. Let’s work together to help you be as healthy as you can be, through fostering good communication between you and your physicians. I encourage you to register at kp.org. It is just one of the tools that you can use to help keep these lines of communication open.

Kaiser Permanente works under the philosophy of helping their patients “thrive”, through having you actively participate in your own health care. This includes patient ability to access your own labs online and reach your doctors via multiple media such as email, telephone and office visits. I’ve always been an advocate of individuals building a partnership with their physicians in his or her health care because ultimately we take responsibility for our own health. We focus on preventative medicine to help identify potentially modifiable diseases, so that we can work together to keep you as healthy as possible.

Background

My interest is in geriatric medicine, where we often focus on quality of life, instead of aggressiveness of medical care. It’s often easy to define the best medical care through the newest therapies and newest medicines. Sometimes these therapies can be particularly invasive and can cause discomfort. My goal is to provide education and serve as a guide to help my patients navigate through these challenging decisions.

I would advise my patients to be prepared for the unexpected and discuss advance directives as well as the POLST form with their family and primary care physicians.

Hobbies and Interests

On a personal note, I enjoy cooking and bakin, as well as travel and hiking. Some of my recent adventures include visits to:

-New Zealand - definitely a place for individuals who like the outdoors; most of the southern island remains unpopulated and covered in green.
-Philippines - traveled to the Banaue rice terraces, which is proclaimed to be the “eighth wonder of the world”. Be prepared for quite a trek into the countryside.
-Hualein Taiwan- Taroko Gorge or the marble gorge. Amazing with natural springs and rivers flowing through marble! But would advise to not drive yourself around the gorge, as the roads are particularly narrow.
-I will soon visit Crater Lake – Did you know this is the deepest lake in the United States?

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
