About Me
Why I Chose Medicine
I chose medicine as a career because helping people is very important to me. I want to leave the world a better place, and as a healer, I know I can have that effect.
Why I Chose My Specialty
I chose emergency medicine because I like to have very tangible evidence of my work. Looking at a repaired laceration, or at an improved EKG after I treat a patient having a heart attack, gives me concrete reinforcement that I am doing good for my patients.
Emergency medicine also provides an endless variety of patient problems and ages, so it's a continually renewing challenge.
Why I Like Kaiser Permanente
Practicing in a large group like Kaiser Permanente gives me ready access to every specialty. I can help my patients get the right diagnosis and the right treatment as quickly as possible. Kaiser Permanente also allows me to focus on my practice of medicine, rather than office management or billing.
Philosophy of Practice/Healing
I believe that the practice of medicine is a mutual effort between the patient and the physician. The old model of the physician telling the patient what to do, and the patient passively listening, simply does not work. As a doctor I need to find out not only what your disease is, but how I can help you conquer it. Each patient is unique, and each solution should be, too. There's no single treatment that works for everyone.
Personal Interests
Living in the Napa Valley allows me to indulge in wine tasting and appreciating world-class restaurants. Then I go running or hiking to burn off the calories. I also enjoy travel and literature.
