About Me:
I am a California native who was born and raised in Redwood City. I graduated from Sequoia High School in 1986. I am a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist in California and I am certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology on the national level as well. I earned my Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) and Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MTCM) from Five Branches University of San Jose, CA and Santa Cruz, CA (respectively). I am passionate about learning and did an extra 200-hour certification in Medical Qigong (MQP). I love to teach and have taught clinical courses and a lecture course on I Ching, the “Book of Changes,” to medical students at Five Branches University. I also teach Qigong classes and seminars occasionally.
From the time of my childhood, I have been fascinated with everything Chinese. Starting at around age 10, I endeavored to learn as much as possible about the medicine, martial arts, philosophy, history and culture of China. This interest was fostered by my grandmother while I was growing up. She had lived in Harbin, Manchuria as a child and took Chinese herbal decoctions religiously for 30 plus years. She bought for me my first book on acupuncture when I was just 12 years of age.
Aside from my medical endeavors, I enjoy listening to and playing music, reading, writing, philosophizing, meditation, Yoga, Qigong, Taijiquan, hiking and backpacking, mountain biking, and generally spending time in natural and quiet settings.
My Philosophy:
I believe that it is my life’s purpose to be a part of the bridge that spans Eastern and Western medical paradigms. My approach is to blend the best of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Auriculotherapy, Master Tung’s Acupuncture, Richard Tan’s Balance Method, and Kiiko Matsumoto’s style to achieve outstanding results for my patients. This approach is eclectic but my goal is to provide the highest quality acupuncture treatment and result for your medical condition. I strive to provide a therapeutic, comfortable and relaxing experience for all of my acupuncture patients.
As a practitioner of Acupuncture for Kaiser Permanente, I have developed a specialty in Neuromuscular Medicine and Pain Management. I also have a secondary specialty in Women’s Health which is helpful considering that more than 75% of my patients are women. I deliver somewhere in the neighborhood of 3300 treatments per year in my busy clinical practice here at Redwood City Kaiser Permanente.
I have a great deal of respect for Kaiser Permanente’s decision to include acupuncture as a service offering. Interest amongst the general populace in Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is skyrocketing, and we are in a position to deliver it to more people than ever before. I feel like I can make a significant difference in many people’s lives because I am the Redwood City Kaiser Permanente acupuncture provider. I am honored to serve you as such.
