My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a pediatric hematologist oncologist, or a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and long term management of children and adolescents with diseases related to the blood, bone marrow, and tumors. I found Pediatric Hematology Oncology attractive because it encompasses the management of complex medical problems while maintaining the long term doctor-patient/family team relationships inherent in pediatrics.

My Practice Philosophy

I am part of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology team at Kaiser Roseville. We take a strong team based approach to the care of our patients. We do not assign patients among ourselves but work diligently to maintain a strong group approach to care management. I am part of a larger team that includes fellow physicians, a nurse practitioner, nurses, social workers, and child life specialists. We see the patient and family as the other half of our team. The team goal is not only to manage the care of the patient's illness but also to help nurture the maintenance and growth of the patients and families in our care.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Michigan School of Medicine, Ann Arbor, MI
Residency Fairview-University Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN
Fellowship Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA
Board certification Pediatrics, American Board of Pediatrics
Board certification Pediatric Hematology/oncology, American Board of Pediatrics

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a part of Kaiser Permanente since March 2006. After working in several different settings including academic and private practice settings, I have found the camaraderie, attention to quality, cooperation among all levels of staff, helpfulness, and overall commitment to patient care to be excellent here. I have especially enjoyed the freedom to care for my patients without untoward interference from outside groups.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I enjoy all of pediatric hematology oncology. My particular areas of interest include working with adolescent patients and disease processes involving the myeloid cell lines, bone marrow failure, and histiocytoses.

We are an active member institution of the Children’s Oncology Group.

On a Personal Note…

My outside interests include outdoor and underwater photography, scuba diving, cooking, hiking, spending quality time with my spouse and our Airedale Terrier and Sporgie, origami, and several others.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
