Welcome to my home page!

My name is Dr. Susan Bynum and I am an optometrist in the Kaiser Permanente Petaluma Medical Offices. From time to time you might see me caring for patients in both Petaluma and San Rafael. I grew up in San Rafael and even met my husband, David, while attending San Rafael High.

For my undergraduate studies I received a degree in Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1987. I then attended the UC Berkeley School of Optometry where I earned my Doctor of Optometry degree in 1991. I’ve been with Kaiser since January 2001 and prior to that worked in private practice in Santa Rosa. I am a member of both the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association.

I enjoy working at Kaiser and am fortunate to work very close to my home. It is also an added bonus that I have the opportunity to treat and provide service to the very community for which I’m a member. On some occasions I even treat and care for people from my childhood, which is nice as well.

While not in the clinic I enjoy spending time with my family, watching our girls play softball and volleyball, reading and crocheting.

Thanks for visiting me on the web and I look forward to our next appointment.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
