I am very excited to be part of the Sports Medicine Center at Kaiser South Sacramento.  Sports Medicine is a specialty that is dedicated to keeping active people active, at all levels of athletic and recreational participation.  We treat athletic and exercise-related injuries by helping you understand your injury, facilitating your recovery and rehabilitation program and working with you on injury prevention strategies.    My residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation involved musculoskeletal medicine as well as the diagnosis and rehabilitation of a variety of orthopedic and neurologic problems, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and other traumatic injuries.  In my Sports Medicine Fellowship at Stanford University I was a team physician for many of the varsity sports teams and provided medical coverage for numerous competitive events.    I have a special interest in treating sport-related concussions.  A concussion is a mild traumatic injury to the brain that does not necessarily involve hitting your head.  Although the symptoms of concussion usually resolve within a few weeks, this is a serious injury in any athlete and has special considerations in the adolescent population.  Treatment by a physician with training in concussion management is very important to your recovery.   My research interests in the past have included concussions, specifically gender differences in concussion injuries and outcomes, prevention strategies for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female athletes, peripheral neuropathies and treatment strategies for tendon overuse injuries.    My interest in sports medicine stems from my own athletic career.  Soccer is my main sport, though I did play lacrosse in high school (I am from the east coast).  I played collegiate soccer for Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and I continue to play recreationally.  I also enjoy hiking, swimming and gardening, activities that I am now able to do year-round!  I look forward to working with you to keep you involved in your favorite activities.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
