About Me
I am a neonatologist, which is the medical way of saying I have the good fortune of caring for newborns, especially those requiring special attention because of prematurity or other challenges during their newborn period. I can primarily be found in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) at our Roseville Medical Center, but I also do rounds at Kaiser Permanente’s South Sacramento Medical Center.
The NICU
Our NICU is a Level III facility, which means we care for newborns needing the highest level of care. We also have Level II beds, where we care for newborns needing an intermediate level of care. I am always mindful of the fear and uncertainty of parents and family members whose dreams for their new arrival never included treatment in the intensive care unit. Babies in the NICU are cared for by a highly-skilled and compassionate team, including neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, social workers, and unit secretaries, and along the way, our team also cares for our babies’ parents and their extended families.
Why Neonatology?
Early in life, I recognized my calling was to serve children, and accordingly I knew Pediatrics would be my practice area upon entering medical school. During my training to become a Pediatrician, found myself being drawn to Neonatology, and the opportunities of caring for babies and their families in their first few days or weeks of life. Among my personal interests as a Neonatologist is nutrition management and parent education. For parents, the NICU can be confusing and overwhelming, with a pace and language all its own. I especially enjoy the opportunity to de-mystify what we do and how we do it, by attempting to make time for regular conversations with parents and other caregivers.
A Little More About Me
A native of Eureka, California, I’ve been a neonatologist in Sacramento and Roseville since completing my fellowship at Stanford in 1992. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2000. During this time, I’ve had the pleasure of being a mother to two wonderful daughters, and stepmother to a great son. My husband and I live in Sacramento, and fill our time off with soccer, scouts, swimming and school activities. When time permits, I can be found hiking in the mountains or near the ocean.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
