My Personal Statement

I read to my daughter every evening, and I let her pick the books she wants me to read. Recently her favorite book is Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss. I am very pleased to read this book to her over and over as Horton is one of my heroes. I suspect that he is hero to a great many pediatricians, because “after all, a person is a person no matter how small.” Horton the elephant with his great big ears is a wonderful listener. He hears the cries and pleas for help from the little Whos and through this recognition he makes it his mission to defend the rights of these little people to exist and to live peacefully and harmoniously. But he does more than speak up for them, he strives to protect and defend them from harm; with great compassion in his heart he overcomes and endures many hardships to prove that they exist and are deserving of respect and equal treatment.

As a pediatrician, I see a great number of little people who cannot speak for themselves, so with the help of their parents, I try to listen to their needs and to work hard to nurture them and help them grow and develop into healthy big people. I truly believe that no matter how small the person or how small the concern, everyone should be heard and given a voice, because “after all, a person is a person no matter how small.”

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
