My Practice Philosophy

I believe in being a patient’s advocate and involving the patient as much as possible in the process of making decisions about their health needs.

About Me

I was born and raised in Jerusalem. I completed my undergraduate education at the American University of Beirut in 1973. I received my medical degree from Al-Mansoura Faculty of Medicine in Egypt in 1980. I completed my residency in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. I then completed a fellowship in nephrology at the University of California, San Francisco.

I have published several scientific papers in various publications and received several professional awards including the Silver Scope Award, which recognizes excellence as a consulting specialist, as well as many teaching awards. I am currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Stanford University.

Joining the Permanente Medical Group in 1987, I have held a variety of administrative positions. Currently, I am the Sub-Chief of the Department of Nephrology and the Chairman of the Internal Medicine Quality Assurance Committee. In addition, I am the Medical Director of the Continuous Ambulatory Perinatal Dialysis (CAPD) Program at Kaiser Santa Clara and the Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation in Northern California.

My Interests

I specialize in the areas of hypertension and kidney disease. My work outside of Kaiser Santa Clara includes volunteering at a local homeless shelter and conducting hospital rounds at Valley Medical Center.

I am married and have two children. In my spare time, I enjoy working out, traveling, cooking and reading. In addition to English, I speak Arabic.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
