My Biography

Two of Kaiser Permanente’s greatest strengths are accessibility and personalization of care. I chose to work at Kaiser Permanente because it is a health care organization that strives to deliver the highest quality of medical care, while maintaining a friendly, personal approach to each patient. San Francisco Medical Center maintains a family-focused environment with respect to both patients and staff. Physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff work collaboratively to provide efficient, caring service to our patients. My fellow anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists are supportive, and we are immediately available to each other for consultation and rescue assistance in emergency situations.

An area of special focus for me is the way in which patients are prepared for surgery. This process currently occurs in the Pre-operative Clinics, of which I am the Medical Director. In these clinics, patients are assessed to determine their readiness for surgical procedures. At the regional level, I am a member of the Pre-op Medical Evaluation Workgroup, which is evaluating ways to streamline surgical preparation so that healthy patients will need fewer visits, blood draws, and other tests. I also serve as the Assistant Chief of the Anesthesiology department.

Outside of work, I am actively involved in volunteering at my children’s schools. I coach soccer and softball, and am a member of the school’s Site Council. I also enjoy skiing, hiking, and reading fiction. I keep active and healthy by playing tennis, working out at the gym, and following healthy eating habits. I am married and have two daughters and a son.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
