Welcome to My Home Page!

About Me

Thank you for looking at my home page. I view this page as a nice way to introduce myself to my patients and point my patients to some Internet health care resources that I believe to be reliable, such as helpful web links within Kaiser Permanente. You can also connect with on-line appointment and prescription options. If you are not yet registered, I encourage you to do so and try out our helpful services.

I grew up in California and Nevada and have had the privilege of practicing at Kaiser Permanente since 1993. If you are interested, please review my personal statement which details how I chose to go into medicine and why I am proud to be at Kaiser Permanente.

I received my undergraduate education in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles and in Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Medical school University of Southern California School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA
Internship UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Fellowship University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine
Board certification Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism, American Board of Internal Medicine

During my Endocrinology fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO in the Department of Endocrinology, I studied cholesterol metabolism and diabetes. After my fellowship, I joined the faculty and became an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and head of the Endocrine Unit at Denver General Hospital, Denver, CO.

As wonderful as the years in Colorado were, my wife and I wanted to return to California. Back in the Bay Area, I went into private practice in Endocrinology for nine years before joining The Permanente Medical Group. It has been a great privilege to be a part of an organization which strives to provide high quality compassionate health care.

In addition to seeing patients for the department of Endocrinology, I also serve as Co-Chair of the Cholesterol Guidelines Team for the Northern California Region of Kaiser Permanente, Cholesterol Champion for the Diablo Service Area, and Diabetes and Hypertension Champion at the programs affiliated with the Pleasanton and Livermore Medical Offices.

I am a member of The Endocrine Society, American Diabetes Association, Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association, California Medical Association, Autism Society of America, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

My other research and clinical interests include endocrinology, cholesterol, and diabetes. My personal interests include family outings, baseball, tennis, and reading.

To get the most out of our consultation or follow-up appointment

  • Please try to arrive at my office about 15 minutes before your appointment. This will allow time for registration and for my staff to get your vital signs such as blood pressure and weight.
  • Please bring copies of any important outside records that might be helpful.
  • Please bring a list of your current medications and their doses or the actual pill bottles themselves.
  • If you have diabetes, please bring a current log of your recent home blood glucose tests.

Let me introduce the other members of the Endocrinology Division

I work with four wonderful Endocrinologists in the Diablo Service Area Endocrine Division. In order to provide you with better Endocrinology service, we have developed a unique system to provide cross coverage.

When I am away from the office, one of my Endocrinology colleagues covers for me. He or she reviews my incoming messages, laboratory results, radiology reports, and refill requests using our new computer systems. If something comes up requiring urgent attention, he or she will handle the situation, frequently over the phone. If you require an urgent appointment, he or she can help arrange one for you at the closest Kaiser facility or at his or her office.

A special acknowledgment goes to Dr. Dlott, the Chief of Endocrinology in the DSA as well as my friend and colleague. His savvy computer skills and lending hands helped all of us improve these webpage’s.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
