About Me

Welcome to my physician home page. I am a pediatric neurologist, which means that I take care of infants and children with conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves or muscles. I have been interested in understanding how the brain works since I was a child. I was drawn to pediatric neurology as a profession so that I could demystify neurologic conditions while improving the quality of life of my patients and their families. I am continually impressed by the optimism and resiliency of children, and I enjoy supporting their development and well-being. I derive great satisfaction from my daily encounters with my patients and their families, and I strive to work as a team with my patients, their families, and other medical professionals.

Before joining Kaiser Permanente in 2011, I was an academic physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. While there I conducted research on neonatal and pediatric stroke, including studies of the cognitive effects of brain injury in children. I also helped to develop a pediatric stroke program and ran a clinic for infants and children who have experienced a stroke. I enjoy all aspects of pediatric neurology, but I continue to have a special interest in childhood stroke and neurologic conditions affecting newborns. I chose to join Kaiser Permanente so that I could focus on providing high quality care to children with neurologic conditions.

On a personal note, I grew up in Colorado, and I graduated from Princeton University with a degree in psychology. I then lived in Helsinki, New York, San Francisco, and Philadelphia before moving to the East Bay. In my free time I enjoy exploring the natural beauty of the Bay Area with my husband and two sons. I look forward to working with you and your child.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
