My Specialties and Why I Chose Them

I have three specialty areas. The first area is Family Medicine, which by the way guided my feet upon the path of medicine. When I was growing up I was inspired by our family physician who, was actually like a part of our family. When I finished my training in Family medicine there was still a group of patients that often needed very early and intensive care. Since I wanted to also include these patients in my continuum of care, I continued my training to specialize in Emergency Medicine. Throughout my years of practice in both Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine, I became aware of a special group of patients where I could blend my two areas of training and practice into one. Therefore, I entered the realm of Occupational Medicine. This specialty area blends my emergency medicine skills of urgent acute injury management with that of my family medicine training in continuity of care and prevention.

My Practice Philosophy

Occupational Medicine is not just the care and rehabilitation of the injured worker, but it must include a well orchestrated interaction between the injured worker, care provider, employer, and occupational system. Only when the parties involved are in concert with one another does the care of the injured worker become world class.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Practicing Occupational Medicine at Kaiser Permanente is a real pleasure. With our team of physicians, nurse case managers, medical assistants, secretarial support, we have managed to combine several different ideas and systems to maximize patient care while meeting the reporting needs of employers and carriers. We have erased many boundaries to the care of the injured worker. As an example, patients receive care both within the Kaiser system and from our community specialists which enables us to best meet the needs of our patients.

On a Personal Note

On the lighter side of things I do enjoy teaching my patients about preventative medicine, and connecting with my patients on many subjects but especially woodworking, golfing, and family experiences.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
