Welcome to my home page!
I am pleased to offer this web site as a means for patients to learn more about me and to provide links to useful handouts and medical information to assist in your on going health care needs.
If you click on any of the topics in the Navigator bar to the left, you will be brought to a page with a list of After care instruction sheets or to a list of many General Healthcare Topics that may answer some of the questions you may have about the disease or injury you were seen for in the emergency department.
ABOUT ME
After finishing medical school at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, I completed my residency training in Emergency Medicine at Michigan State University Affiliated Hospitals in Lansing, Michigan. Choosing to escape the humidty of the east and midwest, I moved to the Bay area in 1985.
My first job was in the emergency department of a private hospital. I spent the next 2 years looking for a satisfying practice in various ED's in the private sector. I had become disillusioned with private practice medicine and it's emphasis on fee for service. When I would call a consultant about a patient I was seeing in the ED, often one of the very first questions the consultant would ask me was the insurance status of the patient.
I joined Kaiser Santa Clara in 1987, and decided this was the kind of practice situation that I wanted to be in. I enjoyed the collaboration with my Kaiser colleagues, and the patients benefitted from the integrative structure that Kaiser provides. At Santa Clara I was an instructor in the Emergency Medicine Residency of Stanford/Kaiser Santa Clara. When I moved to Marin in 1991, I transferred to Kaiser San Rafael, where I've been ever since.
When not at work, I can usually be found on Mt. Tam, trail running or mountain biking. I've run my share of Dipsea races and even managed to do 1 triathalon, even though I swim so slow it seems I go backwards instead of forwards.
I met my wife Lisa out here. She has an MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. We enjoy fine food, premium sake, live music and taking care of our cats. They're almost as expensive as children, except for the fact that you don't have to pay for tuition.
Your comments and suggestions are always welcome, and I look forward to assisting you in our emergency department should the need arise.
