Welcome to my Homepage

Joined Kaiser Permanente Medical Group: 2007

Born in Missouri, raised in Kansas, I have spent most of my adult life in Utah and California. I lived in San Francisco in the 80's while my wife attended law school, and I directed an inpatient unit in Vallejo. I returned to Salt Lake to raise my family, and I am happy to have moved back to the Bay area two years ago.

I am delighted to be working in the excellent Kaiser system of care since 2007, with the opportunity to learn about all aspects of medicine through the academic meetings and communication with internists, surgeons and other specialists at the hospital.

The electronic medical record is a wonderful advance for health care, not least because now all the notes are legible and in the same formats. I can quickly send a note to any colleague anywhere within our regional system, and see all that has been done for my patients by other specialists. Medication errors have been much reduced.

I find the practice of adult and child psychiatry to be personally very rewarding. I spend a half day every other week in the child clinic, and the rest of my time in adult psychiatry. The opportunity to get to know people well over time is gratifying, as I learn much from my patients about the joys and pains of life. I believe emotional distress and illness are the most difficult struggles anyone can have, so my work is always meaningful and usually helpful to those to come to my office.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
