“Just remember, once you’re over the hill you begin to pick up speed.” Charles Schultz

I know being sick is frustrating and scary for you and your family, and I take my job being your doctor seriously. As your doctor in the Nursing Home, I want to help you, your family and your nurses and therapists do everything we can to make you comfortable, stronger, and well. It is our nature to age, get sick, and die, and we can not change this. But we can help each other walk this walk and bear this load.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE NURSING HOME

I have been with Kaiser since 1990. I like Kaiser and the Nursing Homes because the people care. The nursing home attendants are real angels. I depend on these people to take care of you and your family so I can do my job. And I know you depend on them too. My experience over the years has been a good one. Please talk to your nurses, and call my cell phone at 916-761-8052. After 5pm and on weekends, doctors like myself are taking call for me!

ABOUT GERIATRICS

I choose to be a Geriatrician because I am fascinated with the aging process and the courage people show dealing with their disabilities and illness. I attend Geriatric conferences and I am a member of the American College of Physicians, American Geriatric Society, and the American Medical Directors Association. I’ve worked in Nursing Homes for about 20 years, and my other past experiences have included physician home visits in San Francisco, a large AIDS practice, Hospice, teaching medical students, and hospital care. I was also a healthcare worker in Jamaica for 2 months and in the New Orleans Jail for 2 years. I also have my Masters in Public Health. My father has Dementia and my mother falls frequently, and they lived with us for 2 years. So I have some personal experience in Geriatrics as well.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Mississippi! My father was a Chemistry Professor, and my mother was a high school teacher. My brother is a nurse. I’ve worked as a gas station attendant, off shore oil rigs roustabout, downtown office runner, phlebotomist, and I’ve been in a choir most of my life. I’ve been a college Newspaper Editor, Cub Master, Cub Scout Camp Director (3 years!), and coached Pee Wee Football (3 months!).

I am married to a beautiful woman, and we have 5 children, 3 dogs, 1 cat, and a few fish. We go camping and crabbing at Dillon’s Beach, we tried to climb Mt Shasta in 2009 (got to 10,000 feet), hiked into the town of Supai in the Grand Canyon in 2009, and we went spear fishing in Vieques, Puerto Rico in 2010. Thank you for letting me be your doctor!
