Welcome to my webpage. I have added some links to the left-hand side that contain valuable medical information as well as a little history of me below.

About Me

I received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1979, at Washington State University. After several years of research and regulatory work I went to Oregon Health Sciences University where I received an M.D. degree. My internship was done through UCSF at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, CA. After completion of this internship I attended Stanford University Medical Center for an Anesthesia residency. This was followed by a fellowship in Neurosurgical Anesthesia. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2000 at the Redwood City facility. Kaiser Permanente has allowed me to practice my craft for the best of the patient rather than the best of the "company".

I provide anesthesia for the patient in a manner that I feel is right for the patient and for the surgical procedure. My practice philosophy is simple, I provide anesthesia for the patient in a manner that I feel is right for the patient and for the surgical procedure placing patient safety a first priority. I have always made every attempt to assure that surgical experience be a positive experience for the patient. Part of the anesthesiologist's role is to provide a collegial environment for the members of the OR team and to closely work with the surgeon. All is directed toward giving the best possible outcome for the patient.

I researched in pharmacology for 15 years. Based on this experience, it was a natural choice to pursue a clinical career in anesthesia. My knowledge of drugs and their actions has served me well throughout my tenure as an anesthesiologist.

My affiliations are the American Society of Anesthesiology, California Society Anesthesiology, Society of Neurosurgical Anesthesia and Critical Care, and The American Board of Anesthesia (Board Certification).

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
